2 October, Kathmandu. Pvt. Dr. Govind KC has warned that if the demand is not met within a week, he will start a program of agitation including satyagraha.
He has demanded to cancel the permission given to Shahid Dashrath Chand University of Health Sciences to conduct MBBS program without minimum infrastructure and manpower and cancel the decision to increase seats in educational institutions including Army Medical College.
Dr. issuing a statement on Monday. KC has also demanded a fair investigation into the roles of the Medical Education Commission and the officials of the university and the dismissal of the officials who are found to have conflicts of interest.
He objected that the Geta Teaching Hospital was being run at its full capacity without the necessary infrastructure and manpower to start an educational program. He said that such a decision would compromise the quality of medical education and endanger the health of citizens.
Before being appointed vice president of the Medical Education Commission, Dr. Mentioning that Devendra Khatri is the Principal of Army Medical College. KC said that the decision to increase the seats in the said college raised questions about the conflict of interest and the fairness of the decision-making process. He has also demanded an investigation into the fact that the Vice President has appointed a member of his own family in the seat allocation committee.
Mentioning that the construction of Geta Medical College and Teaching Hospital has been completed for a long time, it has not been operating at full capacity, he said that the citizens of Far West are not getting quality healthcare. He demands that the compulsion to run to Nepalgunj, Kathmandu or India for treatment should end.
Dr. KC has also demanded immediate implementation of the agreement reached with the government on 11th July 2083. He alleges that the government has not implemented the Geta Teaching Hospital at its full capacity, even though the agreement includes the following.
He demanded that the MBBS program not be allowed to run until the infrastructure, required manpower and legal standards are met, the decision to increase the seats should be revoked, the relevant officials should be investigated and action should be taken, and the agreement reached with the government should be implemented.
Dr. warning that if the demand is not met within a week, he will start the agitation program including satyagraha. KC said that the government itself should be responsible for the situation arising from it.
