Recently, a different political style has been seen in Nepali politics, speaking bluntly, asking aggressive questions, not being soft with powerful people and challenging traditional political language.
National Independent Party MP Khagendra Sunar is the latest famous person of this style. The presentation he adopted while raising the issue of irregularities in the purchase of police uniforms in the meetings of the Public Accounts Committee has again brought this style to the center of the debate.
Sunar's style has one strong point, he doesn't talk in circles. People ask questions in understandable language and raise direct questions about the expenditure and performance of public bodies. As the main responsibility of the Public Accounts Committee is to check whether the expenditure of the public funds is frugal and effective, it is part of its responsibility to raise questions about the procurement process of the police. If there is a suspicion of irregularities, it is not only the right of the parliamentarian, but also the responsibility to ask for documents, to demand an investigation and to hold the relevant officials accountable.
The problem does not seem to be in raising the question, but in the style of raising the question.
